How to read WoW Forever patch notes

Blizzard’s patch notes for its classic-style games usually follow the same structure, and knowing it makes them faster to scan. The points below describe how WoW Classic patch notes have generally been organized; Forever’s format may differ. TODO: verify — format of the first official Forever patch notes once published.

  • General / headline changes come first: new content, system changes and anything that affects every player.
  • Classes list ability and talent changes class by class. In Classic these often include exact numbers (damage, cooldowns, mana costs).
  • Dungeons and raids cover encounter tuning, loot changes and lockout rules.
  • PvP covers battlegrounds, honor and rewards.
  • Bug fixes close out the notes and are often the longest section.
  • Hotfixes are posted separately and apply without a client patch.

When you read a class change, compare it with your current talent build, and check whether it affects leveling, dungeons or PvP — a change that matters at level 60 may be irrelevant at level 20.
